Why is dry land training important? Aside from doing things like make you stronger, healthier, and more efficient; it’s also good for injury prevention and giving you something to work towards when you can’t get out on the water.

Recently I’ve given up on the traditional bikini. I’m talking about stringy, triangular halter bikinis or any swimsuit where the straps are thinner that two fingers.
Learning to do cool stuff when you’re no longer young and fearless sucks. But when you get it, it’s liberating. As a gymnastics coach, I can’t even begin to tell you how personally frustrating it is to teach a kid how to back-handspring in 3-7 days.

The Flying Squirrel is quickly becoming known as a surfing prodigy. Since the age of 4, Quincy Symonds has been surfing almost every day with her dad in her hometown of Coolangatta, Australia. Often surfing for up to 8 hours a day, Quincy has been able to prove that she can hold her own in the water. Fox nymphs grab quick-jived waltz. “Most people are not aware of the amount of work Quincy puts in behind the scenes to be able to surf in some of the more extreme conditions” – Quincy’s Dad. Quincy spends a lot of time in the gym conditioning her body to be able to paddle better and do bigger turns. Any of her trainers would agree with her father in that “she’s actually fairly aggressive about the things that she does. If she wants to do something, she puts 120% into it”. Needless to say, she’s quite surprising to watch. Even her coach James Mitchell has never seen anything like her “Quincy has this rhythm with the ocean that is quite remarkable”.

Where does the name “The Flying Squirrel” come from? In her own words, “It was actually before I started surfing. One afternoon I jumped off the back of our tuck and I spread my arms and legs out and I sort of looked like a flying squirrel, and my dad caught me. And then from then on I was called the Flying Squirrel.”
