Why is dry land training important? Aside from doing things like make you stronger, healthier, and more efficient; it’s also good for injury prevention and giving you something to work towards when you can’t get out on the water.
Recently I’ve given up on the traditional bikini. I’m talking about stringy, triangular halter bikinis or any swimsuit where the straps are thinner that two fingers.
Learning to do cool stuff when you’re no longer young and fearless sucks. But when you get it, it’s liberating. As a gymnastics coach, I can’t even begin to tell you how personally frustrating it is to teach a kid how to back-handspring in 3-7 days.
Recently I’ve given up on the traditional bikini. I’m talking about stringy, triangular halter bikinis or any swimsuit where the straps are thinner that two fingers. Now, this is not because I’m trying to be modest; it’s because I’ve got girls that are larger than a C cup and I love to live in swimsuits. The problem with “stringy” swimsuits and larger “girls” is that after an hour or two of wearing them, they dig. And it hurts. Women shouldn’t be dyeing to get out of their swimwear after only a few hours. I’ve said no to swimwear that digs in favor of cute, comfortable, and even sexy swimwear. I look for swimwear I can wear all day and that I can MOVE in. Here are some great examples of swimwear that’s on the market right now, that would definitely be more comfortable than your traditional bikini without sacrificing style.

SALT GYPSY
A good approach to all day comfort is something with capped sleeves or even a cropped rashguard with full sleeves. These will always be super cute, comfortable, and help prevent sun burns (because burns aren’t cute).

BILLABONG
I liked this one for its “secret” cleavage. The mesh insert in the front is great for creating the illusion of a sexy neckline without having to worry about the girls falling out. The minimal backline is also great for minimizing tan lines.

Forever21
Zippers are great on swimsuits! Always a great accent or a subtle hint of sexiness. Front zippers are a great way to choose the amount of cleavage you want at any given moment. Just beware of metal accents (zippers included) as they will get hot in the sun! Pick up the Zippered Bikini Top at Forever21 for 21.90CAD
ROXY
Roxy’s POP Sruf collection, as always, is filled with colour! Highly recommend checking this out as there are several pieces in here that look super comfy! This piece was chosen because of its combination of a unique looking cut, cute zipper accent, and perforated fabric for breathability.

ROXY
This one features full coverage, crochet accent and a uniquely shaped, open back. But what really makes this one great is the adjustability. I often run into problems with fit because I have a large bust and small waist. Finding a swim top that is cute, comfortable AND adjustable is like hitting the jackpot!
Super simple front, but holy look at that back! This one is a great secondary bikini top to help vary your back and neck lines to avoid tan lines. AND it's adjustable too! Get this top in black, pink or floral at GARAGE for 26.95CAD
Body Glove
Remember how I said zippers were super sexy and great for customizing the amount of cleavage? Another way to be bright, bold, sporty, and smokin! This number shows off a little more skin with a minimal, open back, and scoop front neckline.

AERIE
Thrilled to see the swim collection from Aerie by American Eagle! Filled with great pieces. This one is good if you prefer the more traditional bikini look. Who can go wrong with a racerback? No one. The polka dots are super cute too!
Simple, but classic looking. Full coverage in the front and a cute little criss-cross in the back. The size of the straps are great! Wider over the shoulders, but thinner (but not too thin) on the back to minimize tan lines.
The one good thing about stringy swimsuits is that they help to minimize tan lines. My solution to this is to have two or three different tops that you wear throughout the summer season. Wearing tops with varying necklines and backlines will help to make it look like you don’t have any tan lines at all! To avoid the issue altogether, consider wearing a rashguard or one-piece swimsuit with sleeves.
